Coastal villages such as Argaka and Pomos together with inland villages like Kathikas, Steni and Drouisha offer fresh, local fare at a fraction the cost of the main tourist areas. Many are proud of their heritage and have small museums giving an insight into local crafts and traditions. The mountain villages of Kathikas and Droushia also offer a retreat from the coastal heat on the hottest days.
