WEDDING CULTURE IN CYPRUS
Although there is a strong Greek influence on Cyprus, not all of the weddings on Cyprus follow the pattern shown in the movies. Some of the weddings in Cyprus try to copy the theme of selected stories from Greek mythology. The Greek goddess Aprhrodite, a goddess of love and beauty has become a popular focus of those wanting a theme-based wedding on the Island of Cyprus.
According to popular legend, Aphrodite was born on the rocks in Paphos harbor. That harbor is formed by the beaches of Pissouri Village. It creates a very romantic setting and one where many weddings take place. Some weddings are held at a location not far from Pissouri Village, at the spot said to have contained the Baths of Aphrodite.
Weddings in Cyprus might take-on a very international flavor. One might, for example, chose to use the poems of Rumi at a wedding in Cyprus. That would create a blending of Persian and Greek cultures.
Weddings in Cyprus would no doubt treat the guests to plenty of fresh fruit. Fruit is plentiful in the lands along the Mediterranean. Fruit and nuts is the typical food served to a guest. Fruit and nuts would definitely be present at a wedding in Cyprus.
