Cyprus itself is a special place to make a visit. This is a beautiful island that is found in the right hand corner of the Mediterranean. Cyprus is supposedly the birthplace of the Goddess of Love, Aphroditi. You will find that Cyprus is a sun soaked beach paradise that offers holiday makers swimming, sailing, waterskiing and snorkeling. You can find tiny hamlets that are hardly touched in the Troodos Mountains; and that Cyprus houses scenic surroundings and wonderful climate where you find food and hospitable people in abundance.

Cyprus proves to be rather quiet and relaxing with the special shopping experience it offers. It is special because of the diverse and contrasting products it offers. There are products worth buying in the humblest village workshops and in the larger and more sophisticated cities.

The products here range from folk art souvenirs, local cheeses, the delicious halloumi and local spirits and wines. The best places to head for a great shopping experience are Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos. You find souvenirs worth buying here like the lace named after the village of Lefkara, Paphos embroideries and beautiful leather, woodwork, pottery and metal work.

There are different types of fabrics manufactured around Cyprus; Lefkaritica lace is a form of lace work that is used as table cloths, placemats, dresser sets and table cloths. This lace is uniquely created by women; and you can actually see them creating these masterpieces in Lefkara too. Another form of woven cloth is Pafitika from Paphos. Here bright and geometric designs are woven into bedspreads, curtains, cloths, tablecloths and other domestic items.

Then there is lefkonika which comes as towels, aprons and placemats, alatjia which is silky smooth striped cotton and silk which is famous in Geroskipou. So it can be seen that you can buy something special to be worn, carried or perhaps placed on the wall, table or the floor in Cyprus. Besides fabrics, there is also lots of metalwork to admire in Cyprus.

Gold and silver jewelry is famous in Cyprus, along with copper pots, planters and saucepans that have been around long before the Bronze Age. Crafting of jewelry has been around since the Mycenaean period where you can find some very beautiful pieces. The silver spoons and forks here are great souvenirs and signify Cypriot hospitality.

Pottery is another highlight of Cyprus where you can choose from jugs, bowls and other objects. You can also find beautiful glass pieces like vases, ornaments, lamps and drinking glasses in the Troodos Mountains. Another specialty of Cyprus are its basket weaving where you find beautiful wall hangings, wood carvings, footstools, pine dowry chests and small boxes and shelves.

Then of course, a must on the buying list in Cyprus is its wine. There are many different types of wines where you can taste and decide on the best wine for you. The best here are the Cypriot brandy, orange liquor Filfar, dessert wine Commandaria and Keo beer. If interested, you can also have a look at how wine is produced in Cyprus!

So it can be seen that the best means of getting something special in Cyprus is by shopping for something special in Cyprus! Besides all these traditional souvenirs, you can find lots of designer clothing, cosmetics, home accessories and jewelry by taking a walk along Nicosia and Limassol. You are sure to find something special in Cyprus to take back along with you on your return home!
